Thanks to its technical and R&D expertise, SCA3P is able to develop new varieties to meet the specific needs of its clients through local sourcing, provided that production conditions are conducive to the development of the plant. Several trials are currently underway.
Distilled plant material, known as distilled "straw", is usually recovered by growers at the end of the distillation process to make compost, which they then spread on their fields.
For other uses, the cooperative sells distilled straw to its customers. It also sells non-distilled plant material, whether straw or dried flowers.
Distillation also produces water with traces of essential oil due to the steam distillation of molecules from the plant.
Distillation also generates water with traces of essential oil with the steam entrainment of plant molecules. This is called hydrolat. In most distilleries, this hydrolat is used in the cooling system and sprayed onto the condenser to liquefy the essential oil (closed system).
As an alternative, the cooperative also offers its customers the sale of hydrolats at a single price, to provide another outlet for this type of co-products.
